Notes:
The seventh of a series of lists submitted together to the Commissariat of Jewish Affairs in Sofia, by N. Gerchev, district (oblast) police chief and concurrent delegate of the Commissariat in Shumen. The people listed comprised 87 households of Jewish residents of Sofia who were sent to Shumen on a temporary basis pursuant to the Commissariat's expropriation and resettlement program. The former Sofia addresses are given for each household. Despite the title of the list, not all the persons listed actually arrived in Shumen. Forty-four of the working age males are noted as "trudovak", i.e., performing forced labor service. Another five were jailed (zatvoren) or "interned" (the latter presumably at Somovit). The June 6 date follows three days after the date on the cover sheet for the lists in the series. This fact may indicate that the Shumen authorities had originally expected to accommodate fewer Jews expelled from Sofia.
