Provenance:
"Lijst No. 9 [...]" was originally published ca. 1945 by the Joodsch Informatiebureau [=Jewish Information Bureau] in Amsterdam (see also Document File AA0003 [Oversized]), while It appears that "Français ex-internés de Bergen-Belsen délivrés par les Russes à Tröbitz" originally appeared in a different uncited French language publication, and from there found its way into the collections of the Musée de la Résistance (in Lyon?), judging by a partial hand stamp and handwritten notation on the photocopied page. The present photocopies were received ca. 1998 by the Survivors Registry from former USHMM Director of Oral History, Dr. Joan Ringelheim, who had received it from Ms. Erica Herz Van Adelberg (whose story is featured in Chapter 5 of the book "The persistence of youth : oral testimonies of the Holocaust" [New York : Greenwood Press, 1991])., who had in turn obtained it in 1996 from Dr. Chanoch Mandelbaum, Secretary of the "Lost Transport" Victims Memorial Society Bergen Belsen-Troebitz (April 1945) [Contact: c/o Mr. Chanoch Mandelbaum, 1, Bar-Kochba st., 97875 Jerusalem, Tel. 972-2-814748]. Correspondence and other notes concerning the acquisition of these items are available as a PDF scan to authorized U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum staff as the USHMM Computer Network file: T:\DArchives\ReferenceCollection\AA0408\AA0408_source_provenance.PDF.

Abstract:
- Two alphabetical name registers of survivors of the so-called "Lost Transport" from Bergen-Belsen to Tröbitz, near Dresden, who were liberated on the train by the Russians. The first list, "Lijst No. 9 : Onvolledige lijst van personen uit Bergen-Belsen (Celle) door de Russen aangetroffen in een trein bij Treebitz [sic]" (leaves 1-3), is an incomplete list of approx. 600 Dutch Jews who were being deported from the "Sternlager" at Bergen-Belsen to Theresienstadt, but who were liberated en route by the Russians at Tröbitz, the entries of which include name, birth date and birth place. The second list, "Français ex-internés de Bergen-Belsen délivrés par les Russes à Tröbitz" (leaf 4), is similar to the first list, but of French nationals, and the entries of which include only name and date of birth.
- More information concerning this so-called "Lost Transport" to Tröbitz can be found online at http://www.bergenbelsen.co.uk/pages/PDF/Lost_Transport.pdf (Last Accessed: 16 April 2012).
