Provenance:
- This list was provided to Aufbau for publication by the World Jewish Congress.
- From September 1, 1944 through September 27, 1946, the German-language newspaper Aufbau, published in New York City, printed numerous lists of Jewish Holocaust survivors, as well as a few lists of victims. These lists, which include 33,557 names in total, were computerized and proofread by staff and volunteers of the Survivors Registry of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. from 1997 to 1999. A searchable database of these names can be found online at http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/holocaust/aufbau.htm. Data compiled from this source is also included in the "USHMM namesearch" online system (Staff Version: http://staff.ushmm.org/namesearch/; Public Version: http://www.ushmm.org/namesearch/) as the data set titled: "Aufbau: A list of the locations of Holocaust survivors and victims from the Aufbau German language publications of the 1940s."

Abstract:
Two alphabetical name registers of Holocaust survivors in Mannheim and Bonn. The listing for Bonn is supplementary to one published in the 27 April 1945 issue of Aufbau (source number AA0113). The Mannheim register is divided into three alphabetical sections for men [i.e. :"Männer"], women [i.e. "Frauen"] and children [i.e. "Kinder"], and its entries include name and sometimes title [i.e. "Dr."] only. The Bonn register is arranged alphabetically by head of household and its entries may include name, title, date and place of birth and mention of other surviving family members [e.g. "mit Frau und Kind", i.e. "with wife and child"].
