Provenance:
Based on a research project to computerize personal data on Theresienstadt prisoners for the years 1941-1945. This project was realized by the 'Terezin Initiative', on the initiative of Serge Klarsfeld and Joseph and Betty Saville of the Union of Sons and Daughters of French Jewish Deportees, using technology developed by the Czech Academy of Sciences and employing source material from the Terezin State Memorial, the State Archive in Prague, and Beit Theresienstadt. Source material took the following forms: transport lists to the Theresienstadt ghetto and points east from the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, transport lists from Theresienstadt to other camps or ghettos, a card-index based upon these lists, and four additional card indicies generated within the ghetto: one of personal information, one of deportees from Theresienstadt to other locations; prisoners who died in the ghetto, and prisoners who were cremated in the ghetto. More detailed information about each source can be found in the introduction on pp. 57-59.

Abstract:
Memorial book in two volumes listing 81,397 people who perished as well as survivors from the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia and the Reichsgau Sudetenland ('Sudetengau') who were deported to the 'East' in general and Theresienstadt in particular. Based on a card-index created by the Jewish Council of Bohemia and Moravia. This card-index was based upon an index created by the Jewish Council of Elders in Prague that was destroyed along with the Jewish community there in 1943. The earlier index recorded all deporations from Prague until that time. The new index was based on repatriation documents administered by the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare as well as transport lists. pp. 63-74 of volume 1 contain a chronological index of transports from 1941-1945. Each transport has a unique letter code. Entries include date, code, origin, total number of deportees, and destination. The following sections are organized chronologically by convoy: The first division of volume one (pp. 79-150) chronicles six transports (lettered A-F) from Prague and Brno to the East (Lodz and Minsk). Entries include transport designation (in Roman letters), origin, destination, date, and total number of deportees; of these, how many survived and how many perished. Victims are listed first, followed by a listing of survivors including place of liberation. Each transport listed has a brief description which may include duration and other groups of people deported along with Czechs. The book's second division (pp. 151-677) lists transports to Theresienstadt. Headings include transport designation, origin, destination, and date of arrival at Theresienstadt. Victims are listed first, followed by a listing of survivors. Individual entries include date of birth, date of deportation from Theresienstadt to other camps, and either place of liberation or date of death, where known. A two- or three-letter code refers to the index of transports. pp. 689-1263 of Volume 2 contain transports to Theresienstadt from 2 July 1942 through 26 January 1945. Entries are the same as the Theresienstadt section of volume 1. pp. 1265-1271 list transports to Theresienstadt from 7 February through 13 November 1944. pp. 1273-1316 list the last 9 transports from Prague and Moravska Ostrava to Theresienstadt between 31 January to 16 March 1945. pp. 1319-1331 list transports from the Sudetenland [Sudetsk zupy] between 14 November 1942 to 7 March 1945. pp. 1333-1335 lists children born in CC Theresienstadt between 13 February 1942 and 5 March 1945. Entries include date of birth and date and destination of deportation. Date and place of death are listed, where known. pp. 1349-1559 contain an alphabetical index of names with page references. Note that a number of entrants have multiple listings.
