Abstract:
From the Department of Immigration, Office of the Home Secretary, Republic of Cuba: a manifest of 936 passengers aboard the German-flagged merchant ship 'St. Louis' of the Hamburg-America Line which departed Hamburg on 13 May 1939 and arrived at Havana Harbor on 27 May. Entries include marital status, sex, whether the passenger can read and/or write, occupation or profession, intended destination and, if with relatives, their names and addresses; last residence, who paid for passage, cash on hand, whether previously in Cuba and, if so, where and when, if previously in prison or 'Almshouse,' whether contracted to work in Cuba, physical and mental health, purpose of visit (tourism, transit, immigration, business, or to reside); how many trunks, valises, boxes, and handbags in each person's possession, and remarks.
