Provenance:
Heinz Kounio, Chairman to the Thessalonika Jewish Community, discovered these records in Athens, Greece. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the microfilm reels of the records in July 1997. Former USHMM staffer Ralph Grunewald arranged for duplication on behalf of USHMM.

- Collection contains registration records of over 43,000 Salonika Jews on the eve of their deportation to Auschwitz.
- The records include last name, first name, dates of birth, possessions they own and their approximate value.
- An outstanding guide to this collection titled 'Jewish Community of Salonika 1943' by Aure Recanati (Jerusalem : Avraham Cohen-Erez Pub., [2000]) is available in the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Library collection under call number [Name Lists] DS135 G72 T48 2000. The guide duplicates most of the material available in this collection and also contains additional information about victims culled from other sources. The guide also provides English-language translations for all of the information in the collection and explanations for transliteration rules.
