Provenance:
"Late in 1987, Wilhelm Wildeman published 'Malscher Antlitz: the Face of Malsch, a Form of Inventory'. In the chapter entitled 'Verfolgte' (The Persecuted), he endeavored to list the fate of the Jewish population (p. 178). [...] I knew some of his information was incorrect [...] In the ensuing years, I have made an effort to fill in the gaps in his original inventory of the fate of the Jews of Malsch. In addition to the Library of Congress and the research section of the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC there were a few survivors from Malsch who provided information. [...] The list on the following pages is based on Wildeman's inventory. It is still incomplete and research to fill the gaps continues."--P. 183.

The Appendix of the book [p. 183-188] features "Fate of the members of the Jewish Community of Malsch, Baden, Germany during the years 1936-1945," a year-by-year non-alphabetical list of 87 victims and survivors from Malsch which includes last name, first name, year of birth, maiden name [where applicable], identifying information [family relationships], and place of emigration and/or fate, including date of death where known. Includes a special section therein [p. 185-187] titled "On May 13, 1939, twenty-two people residing in Malsch boarded the liner 'St. Louis' for Havana, Cuba. Not permitted to land, they returned to Europe and found asylum in Belgium and England." [31 names, the subsequent deaths of many of those listed are also noted], and another special section [p. 187-188] for those "Deported from the Malsch area to Camp de Gurs, Basses Pyrenees, France, October 20, 1940."
