Abstract:
Two alphabetical registers with a total of ca. 1,800 persons, the first listing ca. 1,400 persons who had lived in Belgium as of the German invasion on May 10, 1940 who had then returned to Belgium after war's end by December 31, 1945, while a supplemental register lists ca. 400 persons who had entered or transitted through Belgium from January 1, 1946 through March 31, 1946 who had never resided there. Entries include place and date of birth and nationality. Approx. 10% if those listed were repatriated Belgian nationals while 90% were foreign residents. Entries include date and place of birth (e.g. Austria, Belgium, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Moldavia, Poland, Romania, etc.), nationality, and deportation convoy number from Malines (Mechelen), a transit camp in Belgium. Married women are listed by maiden name. The designation 'DR' in the convoy column indicates deportation from Drancy, a transit camp in France. 'P' signifies deportees not transported via a transit camp but directly to the East. [n.b. Some names of returned deportees with the handwritten designation 'R' ('returned') in Serge Klarsfeld's 1982 book _Memorial to the Jews Deported from Belgium_ do not appear in this list and vice versa. Surname and forename spellings of presumably the same individuals often appear more slavicized in the Klarsfeld book.].
