Provenance:
- The information contained in this database was indexed from the files of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives (RG-05.008 U Reel #8).
- This database was prepared from two sets of typed lists:
- 1) covering the period of August 1940-September 7,1940
- 2) covering the period of September 9, 1940-December 28, 1940.
Keywords:
- Jewish ghettos --Poland --Lodz --Medical care --Registers.
- Jews --Poland --Lodz --Registers.
- Jews --Poland --Lodz --Sources --Indexes.
- Lód´z (Ghetto) --Registers.
- [Additional Geographic Keywords: Lódz', Lodzh, Lodsch, Litzmannstadt, Lodz']
Language and Other Notes:
- These lists, prepared by the Lodz Ghetto's Statistical Office, are illness reports of persons in Lodz with a contagious disease. These are not death lists and they do not provide information on whether the individuals recovered or died of the illness.
- For some, not all weeks, there is a comments column indicating the ethnicity of the sickPolish, German, Jewish, for example. For each week the records seem to be organized by type of illness. It is not clear from these lists whether all the sick persons were ghetto residents or whether persons inside and outside the ghetto were recorded. We think the latter is more probable.
- Similar lists exist for 1941 and will be indexed if volunteers become available to photocopy the material at USHMM. The 1941 lists are on USHMM Archives RG-05.008 U Reel #8 and #9.
- DATABASE
- The database is comprised of two different series of reports issued by the Statistical Office in the Lodz Ghetto. Reports were issued on a daily and weekly basis. Individuals may or may not have been reported on both of the reports covering the same period. There are 5,637 records in this database.
- The information presented in the daily and weekly reports are not exactly the same.
