Notes:
The 356 persons listed were arranged according to 114 family groups, and identified by positions within each family, e.g., head of household, spouse, son, daughter, sibling, etc. The previous city of residence is given for each family group. Those sent to Shumen on this list came from provincial towns all over Bulgaria, but none were from Sofia. One man was sent to Shumen from the Somovit concentration camp, and one more was listed as "gr. mobiliziran", i.e., on municipal labor service in his hometown of Pleven. All the individuals listed were assigned to Shumen during the month of August 1943. However, in many cases the head of household is listed as a "trudovak" (away on labor service). Thus not all the persons named were actually present in Shumen. A cover sheet states merely that the persons named were "resettlers" in Shumen without further explanation. This cover sheet is countersigned by the Shumen district police chief.
