Description:
This project is about the history of the Jewish families and their homes in Gunzenhausen, Bavaria, Germany, in the 20th Century.
Started in 2001 by the students at the Stephani School in Gunzenhausen - a non-Jewish school, this project was elective and ran for years. Supervised by teacher Emmi Hetzner, the students researched the history of the houses and businesses, and the fates of their Jewish owners/inhabitants, who had to surrender them in the Third Reich, contacted the descendants all over the world and set up a collection of materials for the local history curriculum.
The site contains many documentations about persons and many biographies of Jewish inhabitants (from the 15th century up to 1939) as well as documents with information about synagogues, cemeteries and a chronological part with the focus on the National Socialist time.
This is one of several collections in the Name Discovery of the USHMM’s Holocaust Survivors and Victims Database. You can search and discover the names. The search results will link to the full name records on the Jewish life in Gunzenhausen website.
