There were zero exact matches, but many matches for both “sounds like” and when using first initial and last name. About six of these results had birth dates that would have matched her description as a Gymnasium student. However, all of these names are unlike Genia’s actual name. There is no reason to assume one is any more likely than the other. Our conclusion is that Genia is not listed in the database provided by the Research Project.
I do think the most likely result is Genia Wajnberg--as we discussed in one of your earlier posts, transcription from Yiddish to Roman characters (which is probably at work here) means that there are many alternate spellings of certain names. This Genia was born in 1928, a bit young to be entering Gymnasium but not out of the question for this time period. Take another look and let me know what you think.
