Everything that I've found online suggests that Kuba is a common Polish diminutive for the name Jakob.  Are we sure that this student was a girl?  Also, assuming that Kuba was a girl, how do we know that she was Cywia and not Chaja Rywka or Estera (both of whom lived and died with Cywia), or any of the other girls with the same last name (like Bajla)?

Particularly interesting given that school #6 is a co-ed school. If we can find someone who is a more definitive match who is male (eg Jakob) then we might also be convinced to remark the gender. What have you found?

There is a Jakub Dawid who was born in 1934 (a bit young to have signed the album, but I suppose still possible) and a boy named Judl who was born August 20, 1927.  Of course, Judl sounds like ANOTHER nickname (like Kuba); so, I'm not sure that is particularly helpful.  The big question is why Kuba is marked as a girl to begin with.  Do we know?
