Based on our research, we believe that Hinda signed the album because of the legitamacy of her name and birthdate. Based on the information given she would have been seven years old at the time of the signing, which makes sense with the fact that she attended school # 7a. When a search is done for "Hinda Basz", only one name surfaces that matches the student profile.

I do think you've found the Hinda Basz who signed the album, based on her name and her birthdate--she would be 7 years old in September 1941, an appropriate age to have been at school #7a.

Also note her addresses: 6 SIERPNIA 32 and HOHENS 46 26.

Kopel Basz

Mother's Name:
Estera Basz
Hospital, Labor, Deportation, and Administrative Records from the Lodz Ghetto
User Comments:

Based on the dates and addresses of Estera and Kopel, it is highly likely that they are Hinda's parents. Estera was born in 1908, making her 25 when Hinda was born. Kopel was born in 1905, making him 28 when Hinda was born. All three of these Basz's have the same Ghetto Addresses:

6 SIERPNIA 32

HOHENS 46 26

This brought to our attention the possibility of all three of them being related. Additionally, we found a potential brother, Josef Menasza Basz. His birthdate is May 29, 1932, making him 18 months older than Hinda. This situation is probable, considering he also shares the same Ghetto Addresses. His information suggests, however, that he was deported to Chelmno on September 13, 1942. Hinda's information does not suggest that she was deported, but the similarities suggest that this could have been a family.

I agree with your reasoning on all counts. It is possible that Josef and not Hinda was deported to Chelmno, and I appreciate your not having jumped to the conclusion that Hinda was deported as well. You might want to keep looking at Josef's records as well, though--while it is possible that he was also deported to Chelmno during the Gehsperre Aktion, records indicate that these deportations only occurred from 5-12 September. Do you find any records indicating that the 13th may have been a typo?

Great work.
