User Comment:
When searching for last name Russ and first name M*, I found that only Mariem fit the profile of this student. Born in 1930, she would have been the proper age for school 17B, making me believe conclusively that Mariem is the M. Russ who signed the card for Romkowski.
Approver Comment:
I agree this is the only M. Russ who would have been the right age in 1941 to attend school #17b.

User Comment:
After moving on to the ghetto stage for Mariem, I entered the last name "Russ" in the USHMM database and searched for anyone who would have shared the address Franz 76. I found Bajla Russ, born 27 May, 1938 who was reported to be an orphan. Mariem was also an orphan so this connection leads me to believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that the two girls were sisters. I have not been able to find who their caretaker was or what orphanage they were part of.
Approver Comment:
I am going to mark this as "possible"--it is possible these girls are sisters, but it is also possible they were living together in the orphanage (that's what Franzstrasse 76 was) without being siblings. There's a pretty good chance they were related--can you find more information pointing in this direction in the next stages?
